He hadn't been able to shake the feeling that things in the Courtroom were not going to go in his favor despite the reassurances of the Hospital's attorney's. He'd thought some time alone would help him shake the feelings off, but they hadn't and so he arrived now at the apartment with that feeling of doom still hovering around him.

"Abby, you home?" He made the call almost as soon as he opened the door, not exactly sure what time her shift was supposed to end.

As Abby finished speaking Luka straightened.

"That makes things pretty easy, I'll go see what I can come up with." He smiled as he finished.

"Take your time, it'll be ready when you are."

"Okay, I'm just going to go get into something comfortable then I'll meet you out in the kitchen." Abby smiled, touching his hand then glanced down at Joe before leaving the room.

Once down in the kitchen Luka pulled together a simple dinner for the two of them. After setting two steaks on to broil he began work on the salads that would accompany them.

"Mmm, that smells good, Luka." Abby smiled as she walked into the kitchen, pulling her hair up into a messy ponytail.

"How do you want your steak?" He looked up from the carrots he was chopping with the question.

"Medium rare." She answered as she walked over and grabbed a carrot. She smiled as she crunched on it and watched him.

He nodded at her request, while continuing with the salad preparations.

"So, how was your first day back at the hospital?" He glanced over his shoulder at her for a brief moment to catch a glimpse of her as he asked the question.

"It was okay. It felt a little weird at first and I..." Her voice trailed off. How could she tell him she had a little bit of a panic attack? It wasn't like her. She was fine going back to work after...you know. "I missed Joe for most of the day."

"He stopped what he was doing so he could turn as she finished.

"That's to be expected." A smile appeared in reassurance.

"It'll get easier and when he's older we may even decide that we want him in the daycare." His smile deepened.

"I wouldn't mind being able to spend my breaks with him." He turned back to the counter and tossed the rest of the carrots onto the salads.

"Just need the dressing, if you'll take these to the table I'll get your steak, mine needs a little longer."

"I wouldn't mind spending my breaks with him either and it would be nice to spend more time with you, too." She replied, giving him a small smile as she got the dressing from the fridge. She breathed a sigh of relief that he didn't ask why she stopped before mentioning Joe. It was true. She did miss him while at work.

"That sounds like a good idea for when he's older."

"I'll stop in tomorrow after my shift and get some information on how old he'd have to be to start and rates. I know Carol had the twins there and Benton had his son, but I forget how old they were when they started.

As he spoke he plated her steak and a potato and carried them to the table then went back to get his which came back with more charring to it.

"I hope it's busy tomorrow, waiting for this jury to come back is driving me crazy, at least if it's busy I don't have time to think about it." He took his seat as he finished, then immediately reached for his silverware.

"That would be good." She said as she took cut and took a bite of her steak.

"Very true. I wish I could take your mind off it for now."

"I don't know that anything can take my mind off of it, I've never been through anything like this." He laid his silverware down again without using it.

"You do the best you can do and any one of them can sue you without even thinking about what it does to you or your family." He shook his head slightly at the thought.

"I can't be everywhere for every patient all the time, it's not possible."
